Import Data from Other Sources
IntelliPad provides functionality to import contact information from spreadsheets and CSV files. Data quality management is uniformly applied regardless of the source. For example, addresses coming from spreadsheets often do not neatly line up with the Outlook choices of Company, Home, and Other. The IntelliPad import program looks for a company name, and if there is none, designates the address as Home. Each importing method is documented on a field by field basis, as shown in the image below. The import process includes an editor to manipulate the content of any records that are excluded because of data discrepancies.
IntelliPad can also import new user information, on a scheduled basis, from a ‘UserImport’ table that is typically populated by third-party integration appliance software. As a result, new attorneys are automatically added to IntelliPad.

FAQ for this page
Can a CRM use contact information from spreadsheets?
Yes. The IntelliPad CRM provides import functionality for both Excel spreadsheets and comma separated values (CSV) files. The contact information is first imported into a temporary table. Each firm can record any number of “alternate column names” for data, to help the import program identify each column as required by the IntelliPad database. If a column still can’t be identified, the user gets to look at it and either identify that data or mark the column to be ignored. The import to the permanent table identifies any errors, in detail; these can be corrected in the import editor, if possible, then re-imported. The final import program includes custom data fields, links to marketing events and mailing lists, and links to attorneys if any. If the firm uses Outlook: After acceptance into the database, the contacts will be exported to the Outlook folders of the linked attorneys.
How can new attorneys be added to a CRM system?
In IntelliPad, new attorneys can be added directly in the web interface (after creation of the Outlook account); their contacts in Outlook, if any, can then be converted and “synchronized” to the central database. The review process will identify any potential duplicate contacts. IntelliPad can also import new user information, on a scheduled basis, from a ‘UserImport’ table that is typically populated by third-party integration appliance software. As a result, new attorneys are automatically added to IntelliPad.
